De La Chiva is proud to offer our own dairy goat tour experience.
Our dairy goat tour experience is not just a tour; it offers hands on experience and interaction with the goats.
At the current time we are offering the experience on Sundays. As time allows we will expand
and include more days. If you have a specific project or need, please contact us and let us
know about it and we will do our best to accommodate.
Dairy goat tour experience is $5.00 per person.
Our dairy goat tour experience starts with our getting to know you first so we know a little about
your previous experience with goats and dairy goats in particular.
We will then tour the facility showing you male and female goats of various ages
starting with the breeding bucks.
The tour will consist of an introduction to does (females), bucks (males) and what the
differences are between kids, yearlings and mature animals and their needs.
The tour will also include viewing of the milking parlor and the process of machine milking
and handling the does and the milk that will be processed into cheese. There will also be a
hand milking demonstration and you can try it yourself.
Depending on the time of the year there may be kids being born,
this occurs most often in early to mid spring.
Children must have a parent or guardian present and have their consent to watch a birth.
You may, if you are interested, experience a goat breeding. Breeding occurs in early fall
through winter.
Children must have a parent or guardian present and have their consent to watch the breeding.
Hoof trimming may be an option or a point of interest. The does need their hoofs trimmed
regularly and this can also be a part of your experience if interested in seeing how a goat
gets a pedicure.
We will also demonstrate showing a goat in a show scenario. Just like all types of animals
there are many breeders and enthusiasts who show their goats to compete for ribbons. This
can be quite enjoyable for the owner and some goats appear to enjoy this also. You will also
get a chance to lead a goat around and experience showing a goat.
After the planned activities and demonstrations have concluded, we will have a Q&A session so
please feel free to bring your questions.
We will then have a brief period of time where you are welcome to walk around the dairy and pet
and handle the goats. We will have a place set up where you can get in and play with the kids
and will have feed available for feeding the goats.
After your "walk around session" we will conclude the dairy goat tour experience with a
hand washing and we will have samples of goat milk, both plain and chocolate, and goat cheese
for you to try (during the active milking season).
We also make goat milk soap, which along with our post cards, is available for purchase.
We look forward to meeting you and providing you a fun dairy goat tour experience. Please feel free
to contact us with any questions you may have.
Thank you,
De La Chiva Dairy

Proper Tour Behavior:
All animals are frightened by sudden movements and loud noises, so please move calmly and quietly.
Wear old, comfortable clothes and sound, low heeled shoes because there may be mud and there will
be dirt and dust from the pens, the goats and the walkways.
Dress for the weather so that you go home as comfortable as you came.
Take as many photos as you like to help you remember your visit.
Ask as many questions as you like, listen to other visitors questions and to the answers to save
the voice of your tour guide.
Our dairy goats love affection so please pet them gently and avoid grabbing actions that might frighten them.
Be considerate of the goats and other guests and treat them all with respect and consideration,
just as you wish to be treated.
Use restrooms before arriving, we do not at the moment have a working restroom.
